April 10, 2009 - Local Government Liable For Big Surf Injuries?Good article in the O.C. Register on the issue of local government liability for injuries sustained in heavy surf. Â The article focuses on two cases in Newport Beach, one of which involved a drowning while the other involved a broken neck. > Posted by Chuck at 8:25 am. No Comments
April 28, 2008 - Just DistractedNot that my interest in coastal access has lagged in the slightest, and the new puppy is as big a fan of dog beaches as any dog I know, but election issues and posts for KPBS, not to mention actually practicing law and earning a living, have been dominating my online time. Expect more here soon though as California’s June election with two, count-em two, propositions on Eminent Domain get closer and California’s budget crisis begins to actually impact beach use and safety. That and my various injuries heal enough to let me back in the water. > Posted by Chuck at 2:48 pm. March 16, 2007 - Lifeguard Safety IssuesSame issue, same author, different spin. The Long Beach Press-Telegram is also reporting on the issue of lifeguard vehicle accidents on the beach. The other article (from the L.A. Daily News) was posted here Monday. While both articles were written by Staff Writer Troy Anderson, the Press-Telegram places a different spin on the issue, headlining it as the ‘Unexpected Danger Haunting L.A. Beaches’, contrasted with the less-dramatic writeup on the costs to L.A. County and the lifeguard’s efforts to improve their safety record reported in the Daily News. > Posted by Chuck at 6:34 am.
