Lifeguard Liability

Good article in the Los Angeles Daily News on L.A. County’s problem with lifeguard vehicles running over pedestrians (five in the last five years). The article discusses the county’s preventative efforts as well as the legal liabilities and settlement costs.

Thursday a.m., January 10, 2008: This was one of three kids that failed at paddling out in the big surf, so he and a friend walked out down the jetty then entered the water from the rocks right at the break. Despite his demonstrated lack of other skills (i.e., he got pummeled), he did pretty good on the entry and didn't kill himself on the rocks. He eventually drifted in to shore and was walking out on the jetty again as I was leaving.
